PHOENIXArizona State Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan (LD18) released the following statement celebrating the bipartisan passage of HB2945, a bipartisan supplemental funding bill to provide stability for our disability community and their parental caregivers:

“Today the legislature did the right thing. The fight to fund the Division of Developmental Disabilities has shown how often Republicans use the most vulnerable as political pawns. I am proud that my caucus has consistently uplifted the voices, stories, and advocacy of the families that rely on this program to survive. At the end of the day, our work is the peoples’ work.

This has been a long, unnecessary fight and one I hope my Republican colleagues have learned not to repeat. Funding clean supplementals was never a controversy until Arizona’s voters handed us a divided government. The voters told us to find common ground and work toward compromise, despite the avalanche of extreme partisan bills Republican legislators still send our Governor. Today, we ended the latest Republican hostage-taking effort by agreeing to restrictions on the impacted families—I hope we don’t repeat this practice of brinkmanship tomorrow.”
